On August 3, we held a Kids Programming Supporter Training Session!
In this fifth training session, we introduced a workshop curriculum using the chibi:bit—a mic:bit-compatible device—as the teaching tool. In the second half of the session, participants engaged in role-playing exercises in small groups, simulating the scenario of teaching basic operations to groups of three children.
What kind of prompts would get the kids interested?
It might be easier to understand if I demonstrate how to use the mouse while explaining!
How about explaining the steps while using onomatopoeia like “click” and “drag”?
Rather than sticking to the script, many lines were created with the children in mind.
After the simulation, each group shared their thoughts. Participants—including those with prior
workshop experience, school teachers, and first-time attendees—exchanged their impressions of the session.
We will continue to work with our supporters to provide programming experiences for children at public facilities in and around Shinagawa Ward.
Our next workshop will be held in October. Anyone interested in implementing and promoting programming education is more than welcome to attend.
We’ll also post an announcement on the official CANVAS website, so please be sure to join us!
*“Kids Programming Supporters” is an initiative promoted as part of a programming education outreach project jointly led by Microsoft and CANVAS, designed to create opportunities for professionals from companies and the local community to participate in educational activities. We hold training sessions once every one or two months for Microsoft employees and members of the local community, where we introduce teaching materials and provide training on how to support workshops for children.
