Report on the “Little Programmers” GalaxCity Outreach Event at the Toneri Community Learning Center (March 31)

Reprinted from the PEG page, a programming education project promoted by CANVAS.

*********************************************

I was a little nervous since it was my first time there, but over the course of the
two-hour drop-in event, we had more than 70 people attend—including adults!

For details about the event, please visit the Galaxy City website via the link below.

While this initiative aims to establish ongoing activities in the local community (Adachi Ward), we are able to carry out all aspects of the program—from the
introductory sessions led by instructors and group facilitation to
the critiques of the participants’ work—thanks to the cooperation of volunteer employees from Salesforce.com, Inc. and
the staff at Galaxy City.

"Little Programmers" will mark its first full year this April.
With programming set to become a required subject in elementary education starting in 2020, the program has been drawing a great deal of attention from
parents and other stakeholders.
However, the children are completely absorbed in the experience of
"creating something through programming
"—going far beyond that.

We plan to
continue holding these events once a month throughout the 2017 fiscal year, which began today. If you're
in the area, please come stop by!!

The next session is on Friday, April 14, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., same as usual. You can join at
any time, so please feel free to stop by!
