Yokosuka City Elementary School Programming Workshop

Reprinted from the PEG page, a programming education project promoted by CANVAS.

*********************************************

Today, I participated in a programming workshop for elementary school students in Yokosuka City! Led
by the Yokosuka City Board of Education and the Lifelong Learning Center,
this initiative holds regular monthly workshops using
Scratch,
with instructors and facilitators—including professors and students from local universities—participating. CANVAS also supports these activities.

This initiative began as part of the PEG project and is now in its second year. It has generated a great deal of interest in the
community,
and we’ve heard that in some months, we receive more than ten times as many applications as we have openings.

This time, we had the opportunity to hold our December workshop. For the beginner class,
we worked on “Cat Escape,” and for the intermediate class, we slightly adapted “Ocean Music Box”—
a sound-based project featured in the Scratch 1.4 examples—for our session.
Please stay tuned for our future activities!
