Winter Camp 2016
: “Let’s Build a Light-Activated Robot with Electronics!”
On Sunday, December 4, we held
Winter Camp 2016: “Let’s Build a Light-Activated Robot with Electronics!” with Professor Ryuichi Ueda from the Department of Future Robotics at Chiba Institute of Technology as our guest instructor!
While listening to Professor Ueda discuss
various topics related to robots—ranging from the mechanisms of everyday robots like automatic doors to the similarities between robots and living creatures—
we built a simple robot controlled by
light by combining a light sensor and a motor. With detailed explanations for each component—including
breadboards, transistors, resistors, and light sensors—
many of which were new to us, we pieced together complex circuits while visualizing
how they worked.
Although most of the participants were new to electronics,
by the end of the session, they had come up with creative ways to reverse the robots’ movements by tweaking the circuits and
even built controllers that used light to control the robots in combination with their own craft projects,
resulting in robots capable of a wide variety of movements.
