[The 4th Exhibition at Shibuya Ward Children's Science Center HachiLab Has Begun!]
CANVAS is serving as the general producer for the annual exhibition series at the Shibuya City Children’s Science Center, HachiLab. By inviting professionals from various fields related to science as guest speakers, we aim to nurture children’s sense of wonder and provide experiences that inspire them to imagine and create the future.
The exhibition “Music Room of Voices: Hakusu Kanaderu” opened this week!

Have you ever shouted at the top of your lungs?
I wonder what a soft voice sounds like when you use your whole body? There are no recorders, trumpets, or melodicas
in this music room.
The only instruments here are everyone’s “bodies.” Let’s experience
the wonders of the voice and discover new ways to play with music!

At the "Voice Music Room," you can enjoy experiences related to voice and music in four different areas.
What shape is “a”? What’s the difference between “o” and “i”?In the “Mechanics of the Voice” section,
which explores the relationship between sound and the body, we’re exhibiting a vocal tract model—created with the cooperation of Professor Takayuki Arai of Sophia University—that allows visitors to see
the mysterious shapes of the vocal tract as
air is blown through it to produce the sounds “a,” “i,” “u,” “e,” and “o.”
In the “Surprising Voices” section, we’ve compiled a collection of vocal music from around the world.
In the “Let’s Play with Voices!” section, you can have fun with devices that let you experiment with your own voice and the voices of others.
The exhibition “Create Your Own Music” features three works by
sound artist Seiichiro Matsumura.
“Sound Wrinkles,
” where you can search for sounds you like within your own voice; “body/shout/seaquence,
” which creates rhythm using your body and voice; and “sounding kaleido,” where you can enjoy the harmony between your voice and video—let’s create some slightly mysterious music together with
everyone’s voices!
In the special workshop “Wow! Oh! Ah! Let’s Create Rhythm with Our Voices!,
” we’ll invite sound artist Seiichiro Matsumura to help us try our hand at creating music using our own voices.
