National Elementary and Junior High School Programming Competition & App Koshien

The National Elementary and Junior High School Programming Competition was held on Saturday.

The Grand Prix—the Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Award—went to “Mama Robo Heart-chan,” created by three elementary school siblings!

Be sure to check out the Asahi Shimbun article for details on their project.

On the following Sunday, it was time for the App Koshien judging session!
We evaluated the projects submitted by the 10 high school teams that made it to the finals.
Planning, design, technical skills, and presentation—I was truly impressed by the exceptionally high level of excellence in every category.
What surprised me most was that half of the finalists were girls!
Even among the elementary and middle school students the day before, 4 out of the 5 Grand Prix and Runner-up winners were girls!
I’m a graduate of the College of Engineering, and as I reflected on how few women’s restrooms there used to be, I found myself deeply moved.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of them~~~♪
To everyone involved, thank you for all your hard work!!
