Training Workshop at Shakujii Special Needs School!
Over the past two days—yesterday and today—we held a training workshop for teachers at the special needs school!
We introduced several programming languages and teaching materials that are easy to use in the classroom,
and participants had the chance to try out Scratch Jr. and WeDo 2.0!
In Scratch Junior,
students create animations; in WeDo 2.0, they participate in a mini-workshop based on the "Pulling Force" theme from the curriculum materials.
In Scratch Junior, the kids got really excited when they used the camera feature to make themselves appear in
their animations.
We also received feedback suggesting that the “camera” and “microphone” features—
which kids love—might be a great way to capture their interest, such as by letting them record their own voices with the microphone.
Next, with WeDo 2.0, we took our time starting from the very beginning with building the blocks.
Even though they were working on the same theme,
each pair created different creations and movements depending on how they attached the wheels or made the motors spin.
We held a “pulling power” contest by loading the models with various items found in the classroom, such as plastic bottles and musical instruments!
The teachers really enjoyed themselves, and it turned out to be a very fun training session for us as well.
Starting in the second semester, we will continue to conduct programming classes using a variety of teaching materials, including WeDo 2.0!
