\We had guests from overseas join us for a workshop on creating interactive picture books!/As part of the “Worlds Expanded Through Digital Ehon” exhibition currently being held at the
Children’s Science Center HachiLab (Shibuya Ward, Tokyo), we held a workshop
yesterday, Sunday, March 27, on creating
interactive picture books using the programming behind “Digital Ehon”!
This time, we were visited from Canada by Aaron—who serves as the art director and illustrator at Sago Sago—and his wife!
During the workshop, they talked about how Digital Ehon books are made. The children listened intently,
nodding along, and during the Q&A session,
they learned that it takes a long time to create just one Digital Ehon book—making it a time of both
surprise and new insights.
As they began creating their works, we could see each child’s unique approach in choosing sounds, backgrounds, and characters, as well as in how they arranged the blocks.
We also saw them teaching each other and sharing their thoughts with their friends.
The “Worlds Expanded Through Digital Ehon” exhibition runs through Sunday, April 10!
Be sure to stop by and experience the world of Digital Ehon!

On Sunday, March 27, special guests from Canada came to visit our programming workshop held at the Science Center for Children Hachilabo!!!
Aaron Leighton Illustration, art director and illustrator at Sago Sago, and his wife Karen visited our exhibition and gave a short talk about his work and how he creates digital children’s apps. The children were fascinated by his talk, and during the Q&A session, some were surprised to learn that it takes a long time to create a single app. Thank you, Aaron and Karen, for sharing all your fantastic ideas and experiences with the children in Japan!
