Research Presentation Event @ Shinagawa Municipal Kyoyo Elementary School

Today was the research presentation event at Shinagawa Municipal Kyoyo Elementary School. A total of 11 classes—ranging from first through sixth grade and covering subjects such as
Japanese, math, art, and music—were held, and all of them incorporated programming into their lessons.

In Japanese language arts classes focused on narrative texts, students used Scratch to depict scenes that left a lasting impression on them; in art classes, they held a presentation that combined projection mapping with drama and music; In math class, students programmed to find prime numbers; and in social studies, they controlled the “Sphero” robot kit using iPads and gave a theatrical presentation on the future applications of robots.

I got the sense that programming is being utilized in various ways—as a tool for creating and for communicating—and is being incorporated into everyday life as just another tool.

The research presentation was attended by many people from the local community, as well as elementary and middle school teachers, members of the Board of Education, and other education professionals.
We are currently in the gymnasium for presentations and feedback sessions. Mr. Abe, a PEG supervisor, also provided feedback!
The research presentation will continue until 4:45 p.m. today!
