[Kids Creative Lab in Daikanyama]
On December 20, we held the Kids Creative Lab in Daikanyama.
This month, the kids designed their very own patterns, and at the end, they even got to wear their creations.
To create patterns, you need materials.
What are the materials for making patterns?
They’re “shapes.”
Circles, triangles, squares… using shapes with names, as well as
all sorts of weird and wonderful shapes, the children used these as materials to create their very own patterns.
In the preschool class, we started by going on a pattern hunt.
In the classroom, on our clothes, on our shoes… we found patterns hidden in all sorts of places, one after another!
Everyone’s a pattern-hunting pro!
After discovering lots of patterns, we worked together to create a pattern using just “circles.”
Even with just circles, our individual patterns blended together to create a design that was uniquely ours.
In the elementary school class, the children designed patterns while thinking about “When will I wear this?”
Since these were patterns to wear for Halloween… they considered questions like, “What colors should I use? What shapes should I use?” Some children designed patterns they could wear anytime to feel excited, reasoning, “Black isn’t exciting. So
I won’t use black,” incorporating the imagery associated with colors into their designs.
This year’s final workshop was full of various flashes of inspiration, challenges, and creative solutions.
We look forward to seeing all our young researchers again next year!
Registration for January has already begun.
