[A Museum Just for Kids in Nishi-Azabu]
On Sunday, December 6, we held the “Museum Just for Kids” event in Nishi-Azabu.
The Kids-Only Museum is a place where children can freely combine a wide variety of materials to create whatever they want.
After exploring the materials and tools available in the room, we did some warm-up exercises to help us discover our favorites from among the many options.
Together, we searched through the many materials to find ones that make sounds. The sounds produced vary depending on how the
materials feel to the touch and their hardness. We had the children discover the sounds of the materials through various actions, such as rubbing
them, tapping them with their hands, blowing on them, and shaking them.
Once we're done with the warm-up exercises, it's time to start creating our art!
They keep their hands moving as they boldly apply
paint, cut pieces to just the right size with scissors, and tie them together to make
long shapes, all as they
work on their creations.
What kind of image do these four rounded shapes evoke? It’s an interesting piece that plays on the contrast with the
bubble wrap.
The black straws, which I spent a long time stringing together, became spider legs. I paid close attention to the colors and shapes at the tips of the legs as well.
Making clothes is all the rage among girls. They create their own favorite styles and dress up.
For the artwork, which features a butterfly drawn with a pen and made from craft materials, I added a handle to make it more functional.
Some children are taking on the challenge of creating something they’ve never made before, while others are making small changes repeatedly to gradually improve their work.
They came up with ideas for what to make, got to work, and created many pieces.
The next events will be held in Nishi-Azabu on Sunday, January 10, and in Daikanyama on Saturday, January 16. The event in
Nishi-Azabu will be the last one held there in January.
We’ve set up a space where you can come whenever you feel like creating.
We look forward to seeing you there.
