[Daikanyama Museum Just for Kids]
On November 21, we held the "Kids-Only Museum Daikanyama" event!
At the Children’s Museum, children are free to use the many materials and tools available at the venue to create whatever they like.
The word “freedom” might sound daunting to some.
At first, some children may feel unsure.
We offer a little help and make suggestions so they can proceed at their own pace, and we take the time to observe their creative process.
At the museum, we value moments of failure and uncertainty as an integral part of the creative process.
Here are some of the things that came out of this museum event!
In the preschool class, one child started by saying, “Let’s make fishing rods!” Perhaps inspired by that comment, before we knew it, everyone was making fishing rods!
Some children even made fish out of leather, wondering, “What should I catch?” Since
each child’s method and materials differed slightly, a wide variety of fishing rods were created.
In the elementary school class, some children used rubber bands to make objects move up and down in interesting ways, while others created a series of sound-making projects. It was impressive to see them combining
various materials and using their ears to carefully listen to and evaluate the sounds.
The museum currently has more than 50 different types of materials and a variety of tools. I feel that when children look at and touch these materials, they often have moments of inspiration, thinking, “Oh! Maybe I can do this!”
The next sessions will be held in Nishi-Azabu on December 6 and in Daikanyama on December 19.
We’re keeping this space open so you can come whenever you feel like creating. We look forward to seeing
you there!
