We held a workshop on "MESH," the electronic tag developed by Sony, in Umeda, Osaka, on Sunday, November 8!
In Part 2, parents and kids get to try out MESH together!
What is MESH? What can you do with it?
We controlled it using an iPad, and when we pressed the button… the LED lit up! The great thing about MESH is that
anyone can use it easily.
Once we figured out what we could do with MESH, it was time for free creation!
• What kinds of games can we come up with by wearing MESH on our bodies?
• What happens when we combine our daily lives with MESH?
• How does MESH change the way we communicate—what we say, how it’s received, and how we convey it?
We divided into three groups based on these themes and developed our ideas as we created.
Not only the children but also their parents take it seriously, and when the system works well, they break into big smiles.
Ideas keep flowing. The developers think, “Huh? It’s not working? If we fail, let’s just keep trying!”
In the “Body × MESH” category,
participants came up with ideas such as a game of hide-and-seek where LEDs reveal where someone is hiding, and accessories that incorporate MESH—all while thinking about what kind of effects they wanted to create based on movement.
In the “Everyday Life × MESH” category,
the audience was delighted by ideas that added a touch of humor to daily life, such as a pancake-making toothbrush and a fun sponge that makes sounds when moved in different directions.
In the “Gifts × MESH” session, participants came up with mechanisms designed to excite the recipient—such as a surprise box that defies expectations given its
cute appearance and a message card that reveals the location of a gift.
Make everyday life a little more fun with just a few simple ideas.
Make your usual activities even more exciting.
It was a day when MESH sparked lots of ideas like these.
