- [Report] Training Session at the Saitama Prefectural Comprehensive Education Center
Reprinted from the PEG page, a programming education project promoted by CANVAS.
*********************************************
The other day, we held a training session for teachers from elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as special education schools, at the Saitama Prefectural Comprehensive Education Center.
We held the first session in June, and this was the second and final session. Over the
summer, the teachers took their Raspberry Pi units home and worked on creating their own projects.
This session began with presentations of the teachers’ plans and projects.
The workshop was a full day dedicated to developing more concrete ideas and refining plans for introducing programming education into classroom instruction and extracurricular activities, as well as for utilizing the Raspberry Pi. It included advice from Mr. Abe, who provides PEG supervision, and discussions among the teachers.
As topics for their research projects, some teachers worked on creating prototypes of Christmas light displays, while others developed a bulletin board system where students can post their concerns, teachers creating quizzes with questions on Japanese language and social studies, or educational materials that introduce the school in a quiz format; and teachers developing interactive Breakout games using webcams and motion sensors—a wide variety of ideas and projects emerged depending on their subject areas and school levels.
I hope to share, as much as possible, how the initiatives from our training sessions so far will be incorporated into the school going forward, as well as the teachers’ future efforts!
