[Report] Programming Workshop Using Raspberry Pi @ Yokosuka City

Reprinted from the PEG page, a programming education project promoted by CANVAS.

In Yokosuka City, inspired by last year’s PEG event, “Yokosuka GATHERING,” and other initiatives, a series of hands-on programming workshops using Raspberry Pi began in June as part of the city’s programming education efforts.
Held once a month at the Yokosuka City Lifelong Learning Center, these free programming workshops are run by professors and students from local universities, as well as staff from the Lifelong Learning Center, and PEG is also collaborating on this initiative.

Local interest in the programming workshops is very high; I’ve heard that the 20 spots available for each morning and afternoon session sometimes fill up in about a minute.
This time, I had the opportunity to serve as an instructor for one of these workshops. It was very impressive to see not only the participating children but also their parents listening intently.

Currently, the program is designed for beginners to allow more children to experience programming, but we’re told that starting in November, they plan to expand it further to include an intermediate program aimed at those with prior experience.
We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on Yokosuka City’s initiatives going forward!
