- [Report] Bauhaus Studio in Tahara Town, July 25

[Report on the July 25 (Sat) Atelier BAUHAUS Event] The
theme was “knitting.” We designed a
program where children who aren’t
yet familiar with
knitting could
learn about it as they created, while those who already knew about it could expand their understanding by realizing, “Oh, this is knitting, too!”
Together, we moved our bodies in big, sweeping motions to “weave” the space at Atelier BAUHAUS.
It was not only a time to create the space as it took shape, but also a time for the children to explore a variety of physical movements. Some children became friends during
this time, and various forms of communication naturally emerged.
Lately, I’ve really come to appreciate the importance of creative play—how moving our bodies also moves our minds.
It may not always be immediately clear how these activities contribute to learning, but movements like crawling through, stepping over, and crouching are all part of a child’s experiential vocabulary. Without these experiences, children simply cannot move their bodies effectively.
I hope to create programs that allow children to discover and experience a wide range of things through their bodies.
