[“Summer IT Workshop” Held on July 29 and 31!]
We received a report from Mr. Takahashi of the Kitakami Computer Academy in Iwate Prefecture—a PEG partner—on the “Summer IT Workshop” held for children at an after-school care center in Kitakami City!
On July 29, the workshop was held under the theme “Simple Programming with LEGO NXT Robots,” and the children took on the challenge of controlling robots using LEGO NXT.When the robots moved exactly as they were instructed, the children reportedly cheered with delight! The photos show them listening intently to instructions on how to operate the robots and watching their movements with great interest.
On July 31, the workshop focused on “Simple Programming with Raspberry Pi and Scratch.” The children experienced everything from booting up the Raspberry Pi to creating games in Scratch and making LEDs light up. It seems the children were completely engrossed in creating their very first games.
We received comments saying they wished there had been more time so they could have tried out even more activities.
It seems the kids will get even more hooked as they take on more advanced challenges in the future.
We’re so happy to see programming experiences spreading throughout the community.
We look forward to more summer vacation reports!
