- The 7th Children’s Media Lab
We’re about to begin the 7th Children’s Media Lab. Today’s theme is “Children and Animation.” We’ve invited Mr. Takeshi
Ando, Creative Director at Robot Co., Ltd., and animation director Mr. Osamu Sakai to give us an inside look at the world of animation production.
Robot Co., Ltd. is known for blockbuster hits such as *Bayside Shakedown THE MOVIE* and *ALWAYS: Sunset on Third Street*. The company has also produced animations including the Academy
Award-winning *The House of Small Cubes*, as well as *Carino Koni*, *Golden Time*, *Paper Rabbit Rope*, and animations for NHK’s *Minna no Uta*.Art Director and Creative Director Takeshi Ando has created numerous creative works, including graphic advertisements, commercials, and video, as well as original works such as TV Tokyo’s popular anime series “Carino Koni.” Animation Director Osamu Sakai has worked on numerous children’s animations, including the NHK “Minna no Uta” segment “PoPoLoouise,” which won the Best Television Award at the 2009 Chicago International Children’s Film Festival.
The word “animation” derives from the Latin word “anima,” meaning “soul.” It refers to the act of giving a soul to something
still and bringing it to life. That is animation.
These were powerful words expressing a desire to propose new forms of expression by trusting the way children view the world as human beings.
I heard so much about these heartfelt works and the thoughts behind them.
