- [Report] Fourth-Grade Social Studies Class at Shinagawa Municipal Kyoyo Elementary School

*********************************************
Recently, Raspberry Pi computers were used in a 4th-grade civics class at Shinagawa City Kyoyo Elementary School, where Raspberry Pi computers had previously been distributed to all students.
The theme of this class is “Programming Relay.” Over the course of
six hours, each group will create a story and plan their program, then work together with their classmates to actually write the code.
Each group will collaborate to create a single project.
In our class the other day, the programming was almost complete. The first half of the
class was dedicated to group discussions, where students shared their ideas and further refined their projects. They exchanged feedback on each other’s work, pointing out strengths and areas for improvement with comments like, “Maybe we should make the character move faster,
” “Let’s make the ending cooler,” and “I really like how this character moves.”
At the end of the class, we used GPIO and jumper wires to connect the group members’ Raspberry Pi devices.
This was the first time an advanced lesson using GPIO had been held at Kyoyo Elementary School. There were many instances where the
children brainstormed and taught each other, and even when things didn’t go as planned, they moved forward through trial and error while working together with the teacher.
The next class is the presentation!
I'm looking forward to seeing how each group's projects—which showcase completely different styles—turn out.
