[Getting Creative with Limited Ingredients!]
On Saturday, April 25, we held the Kids Creative Lab at Atelier BAUHAUS in Tahara-cho.
The theme was “What
Is a ‘Dot’?” We searched for dots inside the studio and
practiced drawing with dots.
The members who have been with us so far have, in particular, learned to draw inspiration from
materials and express what they want to create using a wide variety of them.
This year, we decided to launch this program as a challenge to see how creatively we could work with a limited selection of materials.
In the elementary school class, I told the children, “Today’s activity is going to be tricky.” Some children closed their
eyes to choose stickers, closed their eyes again to stick them on, and finished their projects
; others created three-dimensional works using only stickers; still others filled
the entire page with wonderful,
nameless shapes; and
children who somehow managed to bring the images in their heads to life—the children’s ingenuity kept surpassing my wildest expectations, and they sat there with lively, rapt expressions on their faces.
I think there were plenty of challenging activities in the preschool class, but I was struck by how much these children truly love creating
things.
The theme for the next episode is "stars." Stay tuned.
