[Kids Creative Lab in Shibuya: Workshops for Children and Adults]

On Sunday, April 5, we held a “Kids’ Creative Lab” event at the Mixi, Inc. headquarters in Shibuya, where both children and adults could participate together!
This time, the theme was “Sculpting with 10,000 Paper Cups.” Using more paper cups than anyone had ever seen before, we created all sorts of things.

First, an adult lies down on the floor, and the children place paper cups around the adult’s body. When the adult stands up without knocking them over… a paper cup figure is complete!
When it was time for free creation, some children concentrated and quietly stacked the cups on their own, while others worked together with their parents or tried connecting their creations to those next to them.
The room gradually filled up with paper cup sculptures. The structures built by the adults quickly grew taller than the children.
Partway through, parents and children explored the space they’d created together. Seeing what their friends had made, they made discoveries like, “It looks like an Italian castle!” or “I didn’t know you could stack them like that!”
The creations sparked plenty of conversation among everyone.

The next workshop for children and adults will be held on Sunday, May 3. We look forward to your registrations!

    After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
