[Classroom Practice Report @ Kanagawa Prefectural Kashiyō High School]
We received a classroom report from Mr. Maebe at Kanagawa Prefectural Kashiyō High School, a PEG partner school!

In this Math A class, students learned about equations, probability, and prime numbers using “Mathematica,” which is installed on the Raspberry Pi. Ten Raspberry Pi units were set up for remote login so that all 40 students in the class could use them simultaneously.
————————————————————-
(1) Solve the following equations.
  (1/11-1/183)/43=(1/x-1/671)/167
(2) Find the 100th prime number.
(3) Determine whether 20150111 is a prime number.
(4) Which is larger
: 2 to the 43rd power or 3 to the 27th power?————————————————————Solving problems like the ones
above by hand is both time-consuming and difficult.
However, the students were reportedly very surprised to learn that Mathematica can easily solve complex equations and perform calculations involving large numbers instantly. Their feedback
after class was very positive, showing that they truly enjoyed the experience.

While it would be ideal to have one Raspberry Pi per student for lessons, it’s great to know there’s a way to conduct classes even with one device for every four students.
Going forward, we plan to use a similar setup (one device for every four students and remote login) for hands-on exercises like making LEDs blink in computer science classes and other subjects!
I’m really looking forward to seeing how this develops!
