[Kids Creative Research Institute at Meiji University]

Hello!
Here’s a report on the “Research Institute in Meiji” event held on Sunday, January 11.

The first program of the year was “Measuring the World.” We made
our own “hand” rulers and used them to measure various parts of Meiji University.
Big, small, narrow, wide, long, short… They measured and compared
their own size to their mothers’, carefully measured from one end of the
floor to the other, and even measured the top of a
table and then everything underneath it… The children got such a strong sense of scale that they eventually ran out of things to
measure.

We also got creative and made rulers using things other than our “hands.”
Faces, belly buttons, feet, scissors… Some children even turned their entire bodies into measuring tools with the help of their groupmates!
Whether it was rulers for measuring small objects or counting
in finger lengths, everyone came up with their own ideas, made their own tools, and had a great time measuring!
