≪Study Session Overview≫

Mr. Terauchi from the Product Planning Division of Toshiba Corporation’s Personal Solutions Business Unit and Mr. Moriya from the Second Development and Sales Division of Toshiba Information Equipment Co., Ltd.
delivered a presentation titled “Toshiba’s Vision for Educational ICT: Utilizing Handwriting Technology.”

Toshiba aims to realize “smart communities” by leveraging ICT to make societal systems smarter,
and is also working toward the realization of “smart schools.”
To achieve this, the company is proposing simple, easy-to-implement ICT solutions
that build upon traditional teaching styles.
In addition to ICT devices such as tablet PCs, examples include short-range wireless adapters that allow for quick data transfer anywhere—even in environments without Wi-Fi—with a feeling similar to handing out paper handouts,
with the same ease as passing paper handouts—even in environments without Wi-Fi—as well as a 24-inch touchscreen display with built-in Android that makes collaborative learning simple.

Next, I would like to introduce a tablet that incorporates Toshiba’s technology to enhance handwriting capabilities.
Why handwriting? Because various research findings have reported that writing by hand stimulates the brain and is an effective means of learning and creativity.
In developing these handwriting tablets, we focused on three key points: “writing feel,” “simplicity,” and “added value unique to digital technology.”
Regarding “writing feel” in particular, we collaborated with Wacom Co., Ltd. to incorporate the industry’s first “active electrostatic
coupling method,” which allows users to draw straight lines without distortion, write fine, small characters, and achieve rich expressiveness through advanced pressure sensitivity. Additionally, thanks to palm rejection that prevents malfunctions even when the hand rests on the screen,
, a resistance similar to that of paper and pen, and a dedicated digital pen with a fine tip, we have achieved an unprecedented writing experience.
Furthermore, to support creativity and productivity, the device comes equipped with three apps: “TruNote,” “TruCapture,” and “TruRecorder.”
