- [Report] Ryogoku Atelier Bauhaus
On Saturday, December 20, we held the Kids Creative Lab at Atelier BAUHAUS in Ryogoku.
The theme was "dyeing.
" We transferred color from water-based markers onto the desk,
and the color transferred when we rubbed it with a wet wipe.
By experimenting with different rubbing techniques and layering colors, we created a variety of colors and patterns.
Some children discovered that by experimenting with different folding techniques, they could create a variety of patterns; others spun their
finished creations around, trying to figure out what they looked like; and still others found a way to create oil-painting-like effects by layering white crayons and pens
.
Each and every one of them made many discoveries and came up with their own creative ideas.
Wet wipes are usually just tossed aside, but thanks to the
children’s creative touch, they’ve taken on new value and become cherished works of art. I hope the art projects they took home—glued
onto construction paper—will find a place to be displayed somewhere in their homes.
This program was born when I wiped away the marks left by a child who had drawn beyond the edges of their desk during last year’s art workshop.
Whether you see it as dirt or as a stain,
the seeds of the program lie quietly hidden within our everyday actions.
