≪Study Session Overview≫
Professor Toshifumi Karayado of the Faculty of Social Information Studies at Aoyama Gakuin University gave a presentation titled “Considering the Potential of Digital Learning Materials in a Lifelong Learning Society,” exploring the theme of whether digital learning materials can be expanded beyond school curricula to the field of lifelong learning.
He presented his current research on workshops and introduced a training program for workshop designers.
In a society where learning is poised to undergo drastic changes, the era of lifelong learning will mark the arrival of a society where “I, too, can be taught throughout my life.”
We have moved from an era where teachers used textbooks—designed to teach subjects systematically—to impart knowledge in a one-size-fits-all classroom setting, to a time where, as long as one has the desire to learn, one can access information and answers online.
Active learning involves finding value in education by promoting individualized learning, and it allows students to build a relationship between themselves and knowledge
through activities that involve both acquiring and applying knowledge;
as a result, educators will increasingly need the expertise to facilitate the building of these relationships through such activities.
I strongly hope that digital education will be incorporated more into adult education. I would like to see educational materials provided not as individual items,
but as part of a curriculum.
In an era of transition from being learners to becoming teachers, I believe
high-quality digital educational materials are essential.
