- The Movie “The Sheep in the Box”
The movie *The Sheep in the Box*.
I wonder at what point people start to think of someone as “that person.”
And at what point does society begin to accept someone as an “individual”?
Living with robots, I’ve come to realize that the line between “human” and “machine” isn’t as clear-cut as I’d thought.
If someone were to appear who carried on the memories and values of a person who has passed away…
Is it merely a substitute, a new personality, or a reincarnation?
Is bringing people back to life with robots really for the sake of those left behind?
Is it a matter of recreating the deceased, or of creating a new being?
Should we move past this loss, or can we continue our relationship in a new form?
Furthermore, when that humanoid begins to develop a will of its own, how will we define its place in the world?
Can society accept a being that is neither human nor machine?
What is a human being?
What is a family?
How do we view “existence” and “death”?
"The Sheep in the Box" was a work that offered a glimpse into the threshold of such a future society.
