- Congratulatory Address at the Keio University Graduate School Entrance Ceremony
I delivered a congratulatory address at the entrance ceremony for Keio University's Graduate School.
Congratulations to all our new students.
About two months ago, I received a polite request and was shown past congratulatory speeches shared on YouTube; one month ago, I submitted a draft meeting the specified word count.
On the day of the event, I formatted the document in vertical writing, printed it out, and brought it with me.
While I was preparing for that, I suddenly found myself thinking back to my own college graduation ceremony.
I was asked to give the acceptance speech the day before.
I received a frantic call from my teacher saying, “I forgot to tell you!” Then, a copy of a previous draft arrived by fax, so I used that as a reference to finish it by hand and brought it with me.
I found myself wondering what on earth that incident was all about…
Two months ago and yesterday. YouTube and fax. Printed and handwritten.
Compared to the thoughtful communication we’ve had this time, is this just a difference between generations?!?!
