[Appointment] Director of KMD Research Institute

Following the retirement of Professor Masahiko Inakage, who served as Chair of the KMD Graduate School and Director of the KMD Research Institute, Professor Kouta Minamizawa has been appointed Chair of the KMD Graduate School, and I have been appointed Director of KMD Research Institute.

The university has prepared a greeting card, but since I chose not to send individual notices by mail, I’ll post this on Facebook and my blog instead.

We hope you’ll continue to support KMD.

I have recently been appointed Director of KMD Research Institute.

Building on our strengths in education to date, we will continue to evolve KMD into a “world-leading hub for the creation of knowledge.”

By integrating knowledge across disciplines, we will advance substantial research themes that drive social and industrial transformation, fostering a dynamic cycle between research and implementation.

We will also accelerate the co-creation of knowledge and its implementation in society through cross-sectoral collaboration with a diverse range of companies, universities, and research institutions.

Leveraging Japan’s international connections, we will bridge the worlds of technology, culture, and design to present new value to the world.

We will continue to pursue new challenges at the KMD Research Institute as a place to envision and bring to life the society of the future.

    After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
