Cotton seeds I planted in the spring.

We'll spin yarn from the cotton that we all grew and harvested together.

After separating the cotton from the seeds, the cotton is spun into long, thin threads.

Once you've made a long, thin strand of cotton, it's finally time to bring out the Pet Charka!

After Mii-san (Myojin-san) showed me how to use it,

I'll gradually turn the cotton into thread.

Parents and children work together to spin the yarn—with kids turning the spindle and parents holding the wadding in place.

After the kids helped tend the garden, they came🐸 across some things typical of this time of year, like crow gourds and frog eggs.

This GREENWORKSHOP session was a parent-child event. I’m sure the parents were just as focused on working with the yarn as the kids were.

The next GREENWORKSHOP will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
