- Bipartisan Parliamentary League on ICT in Education
This morning, I attended a meeting of the Bipartisan Parliamentary League on Education and ICT as an expert advisor.
Mr. Toshiaki Endo, who has led the parliamentary league for many years, has stepped down as chairman and assumed the role of advisor. Mr. Shinsuke Suematsu has been appointed as the new chairman, and Mr. Yoshitaka Saito has been appointed as acting chairman.
Professor Endo and Secretary-General Michihiro Ishibashi looked back on the past 12 years, starting from the days when the parliamentary league was still a study group.
As I listened to that story, I, too, found myself nostalgically recalling the discussions and enthusiasm of that time—such as the establishment of the Digital Textbook and Educational Materials Council (DiTT) in 2010, the proposal for the Digital Textbook Act in 2012, and the recommendations for the Act on the Promotion of Information Technology in Education in 2015.
Professor Yoshitaka Saito’s remark—that “Until now, we have been the ones going abroad on study tours, but now Japan is the one being studied”—made me realize once again just how significant the changes and progress we’ve made over the past 15-plus years have been.
The other day, I asked Professor Endo, “Please give me a short message!” and he actually sent me one!
