- Osaka Expo: Osaka Healthcare Pavilion
For the final Expo stop, head to the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion.
While centered on healthcare, the design integrated themes such as cities, daily life, education, and technology in a multifaceted way, creating a space where diverse visions of the future intersected.
As I made my way through the exhibition, I came across a display that made me stop in my tracks! To my surprise, it featured the porous metal complexes developed by Nobel laureate Professor Susumu Kitagawa. While a crowd had gathered in front of the dazzling video display depicting the future, this exhibit was tucked away quietly, with no one looking at it—I almost walked right past it. I couldn’t help but ask a staff member, “Isn’t this the Nobel Prize-winning research?” They really should be promoting it more prominently!
The exhibition concept for Tokyo Shoseki, which invited us to this event, is “Own Education, Own Life.”
The program was designed to offer an immersive experience of the essential elements required for future learning, and its presentation—which allowed participants to move freely through time and space—made learning feel like an expanded experience, not confined to the boundaries of a school.
What struck me about the exhibition as a whole was how “learning” was naturally integrated into themes such as health, the city, and daily life, portraying education not as an isolated entity but as a vital component of future society.
I haven’t seen the entire Expo, but while I’ve come across numerous exhibits on themes such as technology, energy, cities, health, the environment, food, and culture, I rarely came across any focused on the future of education and learning.Against this backdrop, I found it particularly meaningful and memorable that Tokyo Shoseki utilized cutting-edge technology to present the future of education within the Healthcare Pavilion.
By the way, the “Body Assessment” I took at the entrance showed that I’m more than 10 years younger than my actual age! I’m so happy!
Thank you, Expo!
