The National Personnel Authority President’s Award is presented annually to national civil servants (individuals or occupational groups) who have “made outstanding contributions to the improvement of public services and the lives of the people, and met the expectations of the public, through many years of steadfast efforts and courageous actions driven by high motivation.” This award,"established in Showa 63." I was humbly entrusted with the role of selection committee member.

At the roundtable discussion, I sat next to Director Kurashige of the Naniwa Juvenile Detention Center and heard about the actual conditions at the facility.

The Naniwa Juvenile Detention Center was established in Taisho 12 as Japan’s first juvenile detention center and has just celebrated its 100th anniversary. As the backgrounds of the inmates—including developmental challenges and poor upbringing—continue to change, the center has established an appropriate support system that looks ahead to their lives after release.

There are some parallels with the discussions in the Neurodiversity Project, so I’d like to hear more about this.
