- Neurodiversity Action Plan
Based on “The World in Our Minds,” we have developed an action plan for the future.
Neurodiversity Project: Neurodiversity
■Mission
"To build a society where every individual can realize their full potential."
Neurodiversity is a concept rooted in the diversity of our brains and nervous systems, and it applies to all of us.
Because of these individual characteristics, people may sometimes feel that “life is difficult.” However, this “difficulty in living” is not caused solely by individual characteristics. It arises from the interaction between an individual’s characteristics and their physical and social environment. By respecting these individual characteristics and creating an appropriate environment, we can alleviate these “difficulties in living” and transform an individual’s characteristics into “strengths.”
We aim to build a society where everyone can live more comfortably and each individual can fully realize their potential by using technology to supplement and enhance individual brain function and physical capabilities, and by redesigning the environment—including physical spaces, social institutions, and customs—from a diversity and inclusion (D&I) perspective.
Promoting neurodiversity can bring out new creativity in everyone and contribute to the development of society as a whole.
■Action
We will undertake three actions.
1. Promoting Understanding
Diversity in the brain gives rise to unique ways of seeing and feeling in each individual. It encourages us to understand one another’s different perspectives and to respect the diverse ways in which we perceive the world. This provides new ideas and perspectives, enriches the world, and serves as a source of innovation.
Target Audience: All citizens
. Examples of Activities:
• Organizing awareness-raising events such as Neurodiversity Week • Training sessions • Exhibitions • Promoting
inclusive
education
2. Technology Development
From early devices like eyeglasses to the latest brainwave analysis technology, a wide variety of tools complement and enhance the “potential” within each of us.As technology and the human body merge and continue to evolve together, our potential expands infinitely. We are committed to developing technologies that enhance the individual and encourage each person to realize their full “potential.”
Target Audience: Universities, research institutes, and companies
. Examples of Activities:
• Building communities of researchers in Japan and abroad • Establishing funds to support
research
3. Improving the Environment
Our daily lives are shaped by our physical environment, social institutions, rules, customs, and interpersonal relationships. By reexamining and redesigning the environments we currently take for granted to determine whether they are appropriate for everyone, we aim to eliminate the difficulties people face in daily life and build a society where everyone can more easily realize their full potential.
Scope: Public spaces;
Examples of activities:
• Designing guidelines; • Establishing conditions
to create employment opportunities
