Tokushima Prefecture × Kochi Prefecture DMV

The DMV (Dual Mode Vehicle) developed jointly by Tokushima and Kochi Prefectures, which won the Platinum Grand Prize, is the world's first dual-mode vehicle capable of running on both rail and road, put into practical use by the Asa Coast Railway.

The other day, I posted about winning the grand prize in the Kochi Whale Lottery and being at a loss as to how to bring it back to Tokyo, but actually, undeterred by that experience, I went ahead and properly entered the DMV Lottery in Kaiyo Town, Tokushima ^^

Why do I see so many raffles for these giant stuffed animals in both Tokushima and Kochi?

Of course, I also thoroughly enjoyed the “Dual-Style DMV Curry,” which combines the sweet Ponkan Awa-O-Dori chicken and the spicy Awa-O-Dori keema. This DMV Curry was produced by Ayako Suzukawa, a train-obsessed comedian from Yoshimoto Kogyo who’s also a huge hit with kids.

I went to all the trouble of packing so much into my suitcase, but they were selling them at Yoshimoto Kogyo @ Shinjuku, too…

That aside, according to Governor Iizumi of Tokushima Prefecture, in the post-COVID era, Shikoku ranked 6th (the only region in Japan to make the top 10) in the “Top Destinations for 2022” category published by Lonely Planet, the globally popular travel guidebook, andand Kaiyo Town ranked 6th on TripAdvisor’s list of notable domestic cities.

I hear that many tourists are coming from overseas—including the UK and Germany, both railway powerhouses, and the U.S., where people love dual-purpose vehicles—specifically to visit the DMV.

I also look forward to seeing what the future holds for DMV, a leader in problem-solving.
