[Announcement] “One of a Kind: The Ideal Education—If It Doesn’t Exist, Let’s Create It: A 20-Year Journey of Innovation in Elementary Education”

For the online symposium on Wednesday, November 9, we are pleased to welcome Ms. Kumiko Nakamura, Principal of Kansai International Academy, who will speak on the topic, “One of a Kind: The Ideal Education—If It Doesn’t Exist, Let’s Create It: A 20-Year Journey of Challenges Starting with Elementary Education.”

Kansai International Academy is a Japanese-English bilingual school established in 2001 by its principal, Kumiko Nakamura, who realized that Japan’s school system was not producing the kind of talent that businesses sought, and founded the school to provide the education she wanted for her eldest son.Unlike other international schools, the school’s distinctive feature is that it centers its curriculum on Japanese—the students’ first language—with a primary focus on deepening critical thinking and learning.

Currently, there are 9 schools in the Kansai region and 6 in the Kanto region, with approximately 1,200 students,In April 2015, the Elementary School (Kobe) became an officially accredited school for the Primary Years Program (PYP), an international educational program offered by the International Baccalaureate Organization. Additionally, the High School (Kobe) is an accredited school for the Diploma Program (DP), while the Middle School is a MYP Candidate School and a CIS Member School.

Principal Kumiko Nakamura will speak about the initiatives at Kansai International Academy, which is implementing a new form of bilingual education to nurture future leaders with strong character. We hope you will join us.
