On Saturday, June 18, we held the Kids Creative
Institute’s fashion program!

"I brought a bunch of different designs today!" Yocco said. So, what did she show us…?

A world where all kinds of colors and shapes come together from various countries around the world…?

Oh! It's a flag!

If you look at a national flag as a design, does it seem new to you?

We'll reimagine the design of the national flag, turn it into a pattern, and transform it into a costume.

Let's each choose a flag!

A girl who goes, "Hmm…" and agonizes over things…

A kid who picks things out at a glance

There are many ways to choose

Why did you choose that flag??

I heard that spaghetti in Italy is delicious! (I love spaghetti.)

It's because I saw a flag for the first time today and thought, "Wow!"

Because Japan is my absolute favorite country!

It looked easy. I think I can draw three lines!

Because there's a star in the middle.

(Could you guess from the image above which country's flag everyone chose…?)

Using paint and a sponge, draw a large version of the flag of your choice on a big piece of fabric.

I've used paint before, but this is the first time I've used it like this! That's amazing!

It's so wonderful to see her sharing her feelings with such a sparkle in her eyes.

Deciding which part of the flag design to crop… is also an important point this time.

For most of the children, this is their first time cutting fabric with scissors.

"There's a slight difference in the technique for cutting paper versus cutting fabric," said Yocco.

After going through various processes…

Wearing or displaying the costumes they each created in their own unique way…

So that's how that flag turned out~

The atmosphere changes depending on how you draw it, doesn't it!

Finally, we all posed for a photo in our costumes!
