Our "Secret Base" held a science program called "Science Party in the Kitchen."

Let's all try our hand at baking!
Today, we're making "Ganzuki," a steamed bun that's a traditional dish from the Tohoku region.
Have you ever tried steamed buns? What comes to mind when you think of them?
"It's sweet!" "It's so good!" "It's so fluffy!"
I wonder how they make steamed buns so fluffy?

Let's actually cook while guessing which ingredients in the kit might make the mixture fluffy!
I measured and mixed the ingredients, got some help from my family (thank you!), and put everything in the steamer!
Actually, the secret to the fluffy texture I used this time was vinegar and baking soda.

Combining these two ingredients resulted in a fluffy steamed bun.
In fact, by steaming the dish without adding these two ingredients,
Some of the kids even made steamed buns (?) that looked like cookies.
Let's try making sparkling water using the same mechanism that creates those bubbles!

It was a slightly tart sparkling water made with citric acid, but,
I'd be so happy if we could have a fun snack party with steamed buns and sparkling water.

This is the final installment of the "Secret Hideout" series for the 2021 fiscal year.
Thank you to everyone who participated for a year or three months!
I hope to see you again in the 2022 fiscal year!
