- [Announcement] “ICT Utilization in ‘Remote and Small-Scale Schools’ Leading the Way in Next-Generation Education”
For the online symposium on Wednesday, March 9, we are pleased to welcome Professor Mitsutaka Toyoda from the Graduate School of Teacher Education at Wakayama University.
Amid declining birthrates and population migration, schools in many regions across the country are rapidly becoming smaller. Against this backdrop, there is a growing movement to address these challenges through ICT and leverage the advantages of small schools, and this approach is attracting attention even in urban areas.
“Many leading examples of ICT utilization have originated in remote areas and small schools,” says Mr. Toyota. “In fact, some schools in mountainous and rural areas have been implementing ‘one device per student’ programs and allowing students to take their devices home for more than 10 years. It could be said that many small schools have been practicing what is known as ‘personalized learning’ without even realizing it.”
Mr. Toyota, who himself has experience working as a social studies teacher at a middle school in a mountainous region, said, “To lead the next generation of education—”
He will give a talk titled “The Use of ICT in Remote Areas and Small Schools.” We hope you’ll join us.
