We held the "Feel the Melody, Create the Melody" (Elementary School Class) event in Takeshiba!
(In cooperation with Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc.)

In this episode, using the toio™ (Toio) educational robot toy, we’ll explore melodies with “Let’s Play Music with PicoTones™”… and maybe even create our own melodies??
■Are the Pico Tones robots…?
Even if you don't have a piano or a trumpet at home,
Even if you can't read sheet music,
It looks like you can play music using PicoTones.
If you look closely, does it have a small camera attached?
If you look closely, is there a pattern on the seat??
It looks like a robot packed with amazing technology!
■What Is a Scale?
With PicoTones, you can play the sounds of various instruments and sound effects.
There are also various scales. You can play melodies, too.
"The Frog's Song" was performed just like any other song…
I know that frog song!
So, how does this sound to you?
I'll try playing "The Frog's Song" with a darker tone…
It feels like… the frog is gone!
I see! That's true!
I discovered that even the same song sounds different when you change the scale!
■What kind of music was created?
While using the recording feature
We'll layer rhythms, melodies, and sound effects.
Then…
There were kids arranging the "Frog's Song," and
Some children are inspired by the electronic sounds from PicoTones to imagine a game world and create background music for battle scenes (like, “Here’s a battle,” “Here’s the final boss,” and “Then the battle ends and a prosperous world begins…”).
There were kids who started by recording sound effects—not melodies or rhythms—and created music that was sooooo scary it startled everyone (we all closed our eyes to listen to it then).
Quiet, mysterious music with lots of irregular pauses might emerge, or…
There was also plenty of experimental music and free jazz—genres that had broken free from the constraints of music that strictly follows a beat.
When it comes to music,
You may have had many experiences listening to, singing, or playing music created by others.
But what I did today was different.
Just as you express yourself through art and writing
I chose to express myself through making music.
I look forward to seeing you again!
