[Report] “Does the University of Tokyo’s Brand Not Hold Up Globally?”

Today, I served as the moderator for a symposium titled “Does the University of Tokyo Brand Hold Up Globally?—Exploring the University of Tokyo’s Potential with Globalists Who Graduated from the University of Tokyo” at the University of Tokyo Homecoming Day.

With Professor Kaori Hayashi, Vice President of the University of Tokyo; Kentaro Ogata, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Finance; Yasumasa Yamamoto, venture capitalist; and Mayu Yamaguchi, Specially Appointed Professor at Shinshu University.

What does it mean to be a global citizen? What’s the deal with the University of Tokyo? What role should universities play in the future? What kind of internationalization should universities aim for? What are the challenges facing the University of Tokyo? What recommendations would you make to the University of Tokyo?

We spent two solid hours discussing that, but two hours really wasn't nearly enough.

It was a concrete, constructive, and enjoyable discussion with everyone, each with their own diverse and unique backgrounds (*^^*)

I hope universities will be leaders in society.

I hope the University of Tokyo will build an international network and become a hub for global knowledge and experience.

To that end, I hope the university will maintain an entrepreneurial spirit, build an organizational structure capable of adapting to change with agility, and continue to evolve.

Vice President Hayashi’s message was, “I hope our alumni will become our cheerleaders.” > To all our alumni
