- [This Week] The 60th Online Symposium: “‘The Community as a Classroom’: The Value of Dual Schools and Their Relationship with the Community”
This week’s Learning of Tomorrow Online Symposium is titled “‘The Community as a Classroom’: The Value of Dual Schools and Their Relationship with the Community.” We are pleased to welcome Mr. Motoharu Yoshida, CEO of Awae Co., Ltd., who is collaborating with Tokushima Prefecture to co-create “Dual Schools,” a program that enables elementary and middle school students to attend multiple schools.
The Dual School program is a system that allows students to attend schools in areas where they do not have a registered residence by utilizing the “out-of-district enrollment system.” It was conceived based on challenges Mr. Yoshida encountered while living in both Tokyo and Tokushima Prefecture, and Tokushima Prefecture subsequently adopted it as policy. The program was implemented in 2016, marking the debut of Japan’s first Dual School students.Multi-regional schooling offers learning opportunities and experiences that cannot be gained in rural or urban areas alone,Mr. Yoshida, the representative, explains that Dual School not only provides opportunities to foster multifaceted thinking but also contributes to solving Japan’s social challenges stemming from the severe decline in the birthrate. He will discuss the appeal of Dual School, children’s growth, and its effects on regional revitalization, drawing on real-life examples.
We hope you'll join us.
