- TOKYO 2020 Torch Relay / Torch Kiss
We had hoped that TOKYO 2020 would showcase Japan as a “leader in solving social challenges” by leveraging cutting-edge technology and serve as a platform to contribute to the world. Then, at that very moment, the global spread of the novel coronavirus occurred. I felt that the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games had taken on a new mission: the mission to demonstrate what a post-pandemic society should look like through collaboration with a diverse range of people from around the world.
I hope that the younger generation will bid farewell to the outdated values of the past and build a new society through co-creation rather than division.
There are all kinds of people in the world. There are all kinds of lifestyles. There are all kinds of ways of thinking.
I hope to show the next generation a world where people—transcending national and organizational boundaries and breaking down ethnic and cultural barriers—speak with one another, connect, and interact to create a new society.
Inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games, I launched both “Chomorrow—Change tomorrow” and “B Lab.” Hoping for Olympic and Paralympic Games where people from all over the world can collaborate while remaining physically dispersed, I participated in the Olympic and Paralympic torch relay and torch kiss.
