BnF × DNP: “The Future of Cultural Experiences”

Since I’m scheduled to speak tomorrow, I went to check out the collaborative project between DNP and the National Library of France (BnF), titled “The Future of Cultural Experiences,” ahead of my presentation.

As part of the comprehensive renovation of the BnF’s Palais Richelieu, DNP is serving as a corporate partner responsible for digitizing the BnF’s collections and spaces.

You can fully enjoy this new digital exhibition, which was created precisely because the museum’s collection could no longer be shipped to Japan due to the impact of COVID-19.

What moved me the most was the VR experience of the ceiling paintings in the Mazarin Gallery. It was amazing.

By combining the visual experience provided by VR goggles with the tactile experience of holding onto handrails and poles, you can feel as though you’re actually experiencing the exhibit by climbing a spiral staircase and walking up, down, left, and right through a spacious 45m × 8m × 9m area—even though you’re actually just moving back and forth within a narrow 8m × 2m × 3m space.

Wow! You really have to try this.

Another feature I really liked was the “Highlights Cube.” By using this cube-shaped interface to view the works, you can see how multiple pieces are related to one another based on various criteria, such as materials, uses, and history.

If I put this to good use, I think I could create my very own exhibition space!

By approaching various fields of knowledge from your own perspective, you can broaden your interests.

This is what I hope future digital textbooks will look like.

So, if you're interested, there's a symposium tomorrow morning!

Actually, I want to go to Paris!
