- [Report] “Treasures Secured with Three Types of Tape”
From
a CANVAS Facebook post *******************************************
On January 31, we held the workshop “Treasures Reinforced with Three Types of Tape” (program provided by the Fukasawa Art Institute).

Three kinds of cellophane tape—once you open the "Do Not Open" treasure, unwrap it, wrap it, wrap it, and secure it… I wonder what you can make?
■Preschool Class

When you open the bag, what comes out?
Is this a winner? Or is this a loser??

For the sparkly sequins, wrap them loosely so you can see what's inside, and wrap them tightly around the stick.

We also saw participants sticking together treasures held together with tape to create new works of art!

Some of them just keep spinning the stick around and around and around—round and round!
Some children keep winding it for a long time.

When you unroll an entire roll of cellophane tape, a thin rod turns into a large white sphere.
When you shone a light on it from below, it sparkled, and when you spun it, it even worked as a spinning top!
It looks like it hasn't grown enough yet—I'm looking forward to seeing how big it gets.
■Elementary School Class
Let's take a close look at these three types of tape. What's the difference? How are they different??
Not only is the color of the tape itself different, but the color of the core in the middle is different, too.
The markings at the beginning of the tape seem different, too. The width is different as well.
Now that we've taken a close look at the tape, let's open the bag labeled "Do Not Open"!
I wonder what's inside the bag? It's a stick, just as I thought~
Do you wind the two sticks together? Don't just wind them—cross them over each other.
Ideas, too.
I don't just leave the clips as they are; I reshape them and steadily mold them into solid forms.
I thought the idea of changing the very shape of the treasure itself was wonderful.
Finally, I arranged the items I’d made on a shimmering, reflective mirror sheet.
Instead of just arranging them, try cutting the mirror sheets themselves to change their shape or experiment with different ways of arranging them.
I was able to see treasures with all kinds of expressions.
This time, I tried a special way of using it: wrapping cellophane tape around something as tightly as possible.
Tape is a very handy tool. That’s why I’d be happy if you took good care of it in your daily life.
The next Secret Base event is on February 28!
I'm also looking forward to seeing you all again.
Thank you very much for participating!
