Learning of Tomorrow [Event Report] “The Secrets of Online Education, Uncovered Through Multimodal AI” Today’s Learning of Tomorrow Online Lunch Symposium featured a presentation by Mr. Kamiya of “I’m beside you,” a company that offers a service designed to enhance the quality of children’s learning by using AI to analyze all online lesson videos. The company was founded during the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the growing trend of online education and has already been adopted by online tutoring services, among others, where it has demonstrated positive results.
By analyzing students’ facial expressions and comments, the company uses this data to improve instructors’ teaching methods and ensure optimal matching between students and instructors. Because it’s an online platform, they’re able to understand each student’s personality based on their individual reactions—which is key to building the best possible communication. In fact, their multimodal AI, which specializes in communication, is said to be the only one of its kind in the world.Attracted by this technology, students from the Indian Institute of Technology and Tsinghua University have reportedly joined the venture. It’s been global from the very start (^^). The company also boasts an 84% accuracy rate in predicting customer churn through video analysis, which reportedly leads to operational improvements at a low cost.
Going forward, they say they are considering applications not only in the field of education but also in the healthcare sector—such as matchmaking services for those seeking marriage, as well as initiatives to prevent depression and harassment.
It seems likely that services based on data collected from online classes will continue to increase in the future.

After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
