“The Future of Learning in 20xx”

We have released a video titled “Education in 20xx” that envisions the future of education.

This video was produced based on ideas discussed by members of the Learning of Tomorrow’s working group.

It depicts the increasing trend toward individualized learning in academic subjects, as well as the growing prevalence of project-based and problem-solving learning, and the diverse career paths available after graduation. Each scene was created with these concepts in mind.

Scene 1: Schools as Local Communities

It has become a “school” that serves not only the children but also functions as a local community.

On the school grounds, near the school gates, and from the school windows, you can see young children, families with young children, the elderly, and pets, and everyone enjoys exchanging greetings and chatting.

Scene 2: Classroom—Children entering the classroom as they arrive at school

At the classroom entrance, attendance is tracked using an automated attendance management system, such as facial recognition,

As the use of tablets and cloud services has become more widespread, students are coming to school empty-handed or with just a tablet.

There are even cases where robots go to school in place of their owners.

Scene 3: Classroom Scene

・Learning tailored to each individual's learning style.

A variety of learning styles are accommodated, including standing at a counter-like area, sitting on a sofa, lying down on the carpet, and spaces where groups can gather for meetings. Of course, each student has their own tablet.

・Utilizing cutting-edge technology to conduct virtual science experiments and engage in ongoing discussions with participants overseas.

The classroom walls serve as screens. One of the screens is constantly connected to a school overseas, allowing the children to engage in discussions with their peers there.

・Numerous sensors detect facial expressions and movements, assess the student's level of understanding, and assist with learning.

Sensors are installed in various locations to monitor learning progress and understanding based on facial expressions and movements.

・Some children even go to school by robot from the hospital.

They are connecting with their child, who is in the hospital, and talking to them through a robot.

Scene 4: AI-Driven, Individually Optimized Curriculum Design

Every morning, an AI generates a personalized schedule for each student, which is displayed on their tablet.

On one child's tablet, it says, "Fraction calculation problems: 45 minutes; Fraction word problems: 50 minutes…

On one child's tablet, it said, "Speaking: 30 minutes; Writing a report in English: 60 minutes…"

On one child's tablet, it said, "Research on the Muromachi period: 60 minutes; Report writing: 60 minutes…"

Scene 5: Morning Academic Subjects @ Classroom

Use AI to complete your morning studies in half the time it used to take.

Math on a tablet, virtual science experiments using VR goggles, and one-on-one English conversation practice with a robot. A variety of learning styles.

The teacher is actively communicating with the children up close. One child is studying math on a tablet. Another is conducting a virtual science experiment while wearing VR goggles. One child is learning one-on-one with a robot. Another is practicing English conversation with a robot. Rather than using a one-way teaching style from the teacher’s desk, the teacher is actively communicating with the children while staying close to them.

Scene 6: Morning Academic Classes @ Schoolyard

During physical education class, students choose an activity they like and participate in it.

Virtual batting, pull-ups using tablets. Some children are even inventing new sports.

They are divided into several groups and are practicing their respective sports. In each group, the children are using tablets to film and analyze each other’s movements.

Scene 7: Morning Academic Classes—Art Class in the @Space

Digital Manufacturing Time.

Equipped with a Fab Space featuring 3D printers, laser cutters, and more, the space is a hub of active hands-on creation. There are children making monsters, cars, and accessories, among other things.

Scene 8: A School Open to the Community

Adults and children from the community gather at the cafeteria and the library.

Both children and adults are eating.

There are adults studying and reading in the library. They’re using paper books, tablets, computers, and even VR.

Local organizations also use it as a meeting space.

Scene 9: Project-Based Learning

In the afternoon, students engage in problem-based and project-based learning. Each student chooses a theme and works on their own project.

Developing apps through programming, interviewing local residents, and visiting companies. Children take on the role of teachers and give lessons to adults. Learning through collaborative creation that transcends generations, regions, and national borders.

Scene 10: The Staff Room, Where Work-Style Reform Has Made Progress

With the advancement of digitalization, people are working under flexible-hour systems. Lifelong learning is also on the rise.

The layout of the staff room is also flexible. Just like in the classrooms, it’s furnished with sofas and comfortable chairs. There are also meeting spaces. Discussions and meetings among teachers are lively. Here’s a teacher reading a book and studying.

Scene 11: Online Sharing of Teachers' Expertise and Insights

Lesson plans from Japan and abroad are shared. AI suggests the most effective teaching methods.

Scene 12: A Sports Day That Brings the World and the Community Together

A sports day featuring children from all over the world. The participating countries and children are shown on a big screen as they all run in a race together. There are lots of people cheering them on from the sidelines.

Scene 13: A Concert That Brings the World and the Region Together

Playing music together with children from around the world. The scene shows them gathering in a VR space and playing various instruments they’ve brought with them.

Scene 14: Using AI for Career Guidance

Based on your interests and preferences, it suggests recommended careers and what you should study to pursue them.

During meetings with their teachers, children discover their hobbies and interests. An app that suggests recommended careers and career plans based on their interests and hobbies. A robot that, when you tell it what career you want to pursue, breaks down what you need to learn into specific steps.

Scene 15: A School Health Room Open to the Community

It has become a sort of health room for the community. Grandparents are also chatting with the school nurse.

There is a robot counselor that can assess a person’s psychological state based on their voice and detect a child’s worries from what they say.

Scene 16: End-of-Year Ceremony and Graduation Ceremony

What matters is your learning history. All learning history is stored on the blockchain.

Instead of a report card, teachers hand out portfolios. These document what each child has learned and created over the course of the year.

On the tablet, all learning history is archived on the blockchain and analyzed by AI. It shows you your strengths and weaknesses, as well as your short- and medium-term goals.

Scene 17: Learning at Home

Everyone has their own personal tutor or companion robot.

A child using a smartphone to do homework with a chatbot. The child is asking the robot questions about parts they don't understand using voice commands.

Scene 18: How to Spend Time at Home

As work-style reforms—such as the widespread adoption of remote work—continue to take hold, parents are spending more time with their children.

I work from home while learning alongside my child.

Connect with a variety of families and teach and learn from one another anytime, anywhere.

If you have any questions, ask the chatbot.

Scene 19: How to Spend Time After School and on Days Off

Children riding in self-driving cars.

They go out freely to take part in company tours, extracurricular activities, and the like. Some children even work at companies. They go out to have experiences that aren’t possible at school, such as learning about ecosystems in the forest.

Scene 20: Career Path

Students also choose the courses they like from multiple universities. These are children who are “enrolling” in many universities.

Some children start their own businesses right after graduating from school.
