Ars Electronica “Future School Festival” Talk Event

Last night, at the Ars Electronica “Future School Festival” @ Midtown, I had the pleasure of discussing the theme “Citizens of the Future” with Gerfried Stocker, Artistic Director of Ars Electronica; Hideaki Ogawa, Co-Director of the Ars Electronica Future Lab; media artist Etsuko Ichihara; andand Michael Thundercliffe, Senior Manager at GSE, on the theme of “Citizens of the Future” ^^
What made me especially happy was that Etsuko Ichihara—who has participated in the Workshop Collection several times in the past—told me that the Workshop Collection was the catalyst that led her to where she is today, and that it serves as an excellent experimental ground, likely having nurtured many media artists. If that’s the case, I’d be overjoyed.
Next time, I’d love to take a good, close look at Ars’s Future Lab!

Citizens of the Future
: What
the Citizens of the Future Will Learn What will people learn in the 21st century? In 2020, school education in Japan began to undergo changes. Until now, school education has focused on imparting knowledge so that students could answer predetermined questions. To navigate an unpredictable future with resilience, a new approach to learning is needed—one that empowers students to formulate their own questions and take action. In this session, a diverse group of education practitioners—including educators, artists, cultural institutions, and businesses—will discuss citizen-participatory learning, citizen science, STEAM education, and the future of schools.
