- Mercari
I had a meeting with Kinoko, a KMD alumna who works at Mercari.
I learned that even elementary school students can have their own accounts on Mercari. I’d always thought they were buying and selling through their parents’ accounts ^^;
Apparently, they earn pocket money on Mercari, or get paid by handling packaging and shipping on their parents’ behalf.
It’s true—packing can be a hassle, so it’s a win-win for both parents and kids.
While I’m a little worried that kids who are used to Instagram might try to make their photos look too good, Mercari is definitely a great tool for financial education.
Also, it seems that in some Mercari-using households, allowance is loaded onto Suica cards—so cashless payments are really catching on even for kids’ allowances.
