[Report] Let’s Make Music and Dance

"Let's Make Music and Dance" Held on March 23 Yesterday, we held "Let's Make Music and Dance," a workshop where participants created music and dance using the Nintendo Switch game "KORG Gadget for Nintendo Switch"!

It was a long day, running from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but the children were completely engrossed from start to finish and successfully completed their teams’ “music” and “dance” routines!
The children combined two words drawn at random to create a theme, and then used that theme to express their own music and dance.

Themes included “Smart Japanese,” “Stylish Black,” and “Gentle Blue,” among others.
The quality of the finished music was so high that it was hard to believe these children—who had just met today—had created it using software they were using for the very first time. Within the teams, we saw a lively exchange of ideas, such as, “Let’s add a darker, blacker sound!” and “Should we mute the drums here for a moment?”

CANVAS members, instructor Mr. Denji Sano, the dancers from O.F.F., and everyone at KORG—it was a time when we were all amazed by the children’s potential and filled with joy. We all hope that today will serve as a starting point for the children to discover what they truly “love,” whether it’s dance or music.

    After graduating from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Tokyo, he served as a visiting researcher at the MIT Media Lab before founding the NPO CANVAS and the Learning of Tomorrow Association, a General Incorporated Association, and assuming the role of representative. He serves as an outside director for Matsuya Co., Ltd., Fuji Media Holdings, Inc., and Digital Garage, Inc.
    He has served on various government committees, including the Information and Communications Council of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, as well as the NHK Central Broadcasting Program Council. He also serves as a director of the Digital Signage Consortium, among other roles. He holds a Ph.D. in Policy and Media.
    His publications include *Turning On Children’s Creativity!*, *What Are Smart Kids Doing on Their Smartphones?*, *The Forefront of Online Education in Japan: Considering Learning in the Post-COVID Era*,“What Is Programming Education? 45 Questions Parents Want to Know,” and “Declaration on Digital Education.” He has also provided supervision for numerous works, including “Ah, I See! Programming Education for Parents and Children Through Manga.”
